Jorge Lorenzo Fiat Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo said he will participate during the final pre-season MotoGP test, but he’s not competing for the fastest lap time. Rather, the Spaniard is using the last of three pre-season tests at Qatar on March 18-19 to measure his effectiveness on the Yamaha M1 while recovering from an injury.

Lorenzo, teammate of World Champion Valentino Rossi, missed out at the second session of pre-season testing due to the injury he sustained during a motocross training accident in February near Barcelona. The runner-up of the 2009 MotoGP World Championship fractured the base of his first finger and suffered a displaced thumb.

haslam When Leon Haslam crossed the finish line at Phillip Island, he didn’t know he was making history. But Leon Haslam’s finish at the end of race one at the opening weekend of the World Superbike championships, put him in the books for two reasons; it was the closest finish in WSBK history, and he became the 63rd rider to win a WSB race.

At the end of the race, Michele Fabrizio and his Xerox Ducati team celebrated, but after the finish was reviewed, Haslam was awarded the win by a margin of .004 seconds. It was the first win for the Suzuki Alstare rider, and placed him among the elite of WSBK racers.

In the 23 year history of the WSBK, only 63 riders, including Haslam, have won a haslam race. Carl Fogarty has the most wins with 59,  followed by Troy Bayliss with 53, Noriyuki Haga with 41 and Troy Corser with 33. Carlos Checa, who won the second race on the opening weekend, has three wins.

Phillip Island is one of the fastest tracks that riders will experience during the WSB season, and is prone to close finishes. The race that Haslam won by .004 seconds had an average speed of 107 mph.

AMA Supercross Rider Ryan Villopoto The second half of the 2010 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship heads north this weekend – way north to Toronto’s Rogers Centre, the only race outside U.S. borders.

Although Ryan Villopoto ultimately dominated at Daytona SX last weekend, leading every lap of the race, the Monster Energy Kawasaki rider lies in the shadow of Ryan Dungey. The Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider Dungey has 192 points going into round 10, while Villopoto has 172.

On the intial start at Daytona, Dungey got the holeshot, but the race was red flagged due to J-Law Racing Yamaha rider Grant Langston hitting the dirt hard. No official reports have been released about the South African, but on his Facebook page he said he sustained several injuries and will be out of racing for a while.
