WSBK: Haga, Spies, Fabrizio Hot

Three...of a perfect pair

World Superbike Press Release

Fabrizio, Haga and Spies
In World Superbike this year three riders still have a realistic chance of outright championship success, Noriyuki HagaBen Spies and Michel Fabrizio. The points total of the top riders tells the story with Haga and Spies only seven points from each other, with Fabrizio 53 points behind the lead, and thus with the hardest work to do if he wants to be World Champion.

Last year at this stage - four rounds still to go - the unstoppable Bayliss was fully 82 points ahead of Max Neukirchner and 92 ahead of Troy Corser. There may have been little chance of anyone catching Bayliss, but the battle for second was the other main focus, as Carlos Checa was 101 points from Bayliss, Haga 104 off the lead.

In 2007, James Toseland (the eventual champion by only two points), was an impressive 43 points ahead of Max Biaggi with four rounds left to run, with Haga only two points behind Max, and Bayliss 11 points behind Nori. But within the space of eight races Toseland's championship advantage dropped to only two! So as we can see, there is still everything to play for in 2009.
