Carlos Checa set the pace for the World Superbike riders during the first qualifying session at BRNO. The Ducati rider set a 1'59.322 lap time around the Czech track to claim the top spot for the day.
Checa was followed around BRNO by fellow Ducati rider Jakub Smrz. Smrz finished with a 1'59.585 lap time.
A pair of Yamahas crossed the line in third and fourth. Marco Melandri beat out his teammate Eugene Laverty to take the third place spot on the provisional front row.
Max Biaggi was the next rider across the line. Tom Sykes, Leon Haslam, Michel Fabrizio, Sylvain Guintoli, and Ayrton Badovini completed the top 10. The top 9 riders were all within a second of Checa's pace.
James Toseland, who tried to make his return to racing this weekend, has decided to sit out the remainder of BRNO. Toseland decided that his wrist wasn't healthy enough to compete, so he will be replaced by Lorenzo Lanzi.
