Biaggi Puts One in the Win Column

biaggi_wins_at_aragonIt took Max Biaggi 14 races, but the 2010 World Superbike Champion has finally put a tally in the win column for the 2011 season. Biaggi, who has been a podium regular this season, hasn’t been able to climb to the final step. But Biaggi put in a stellar performance today at Aragon to take the win by more than 4 seconds ahead of race 1 winner Marco Melandri.

Biaggi was leading the first World Superbike race at Aragon, but made a mistake in the closing laps and had to settle for second. In race 2, it was Melandri who slipped up on the closing laps, allowing Biaggi to pull away and take his first win of the 2011 World Superbike season.

Carlos Checa, who crashed out of race 1, was able to limit the points damage with a podium finish in race 2. Checa took third during the second World Superbike race behind Biaggi and Melandri.

Checa still has a comfortable lead in the series, but Biaggi and Melandri were able to take a big step closer to the points leader. Checa currently leads the series with 261 points. Biaggi is 43 points behind with 218 and Melandri is just a little further back with 195.
