Marco Melandri took his first World Superbike pole position today after topping the Superpole session. Melandri also gave Yamaha its first pole position of the season with his outstanding performance today at Aragon.
Melandri, who set the circuit record yesterday, bettered his time again during the Superpole session. Melandri set a new track best during the third Superpole session to claim the front spot on the grid. Melandri set a 1’57.634 lap time around the Aragon track, beating out Max Biaggi, Leon Camier, and Carlos Checa.
Tom Sykes, Eugene Laverty, Joan Laszcorz, and Ayrton Badovini will start from row two.
Carlos Checa has taken the last four wins in the World Superbike series, but it looks like that streak could end tomorrow as Checa is nearly a second off of Melandri’s pace.
