Melandri Sets Circuit Record, Takes Provisional Pole at Aragon

marco_melandri_aragonMarco Melandri led the way today at Aragon during the first World Superbike qualifying session of the weekend. Melandri was the only rider to drop below the two minute mark, taking the provisional pole from Carlos Checa.

Melandri set a 1’59.726 around the Aragon track, setting a new circuit record. Checa, who was closest to keeping up with Melandri, was more than .3 seconds off the pace. Norkyuki Haga was able to take the third place spot today, despite a crash in the middle of the session.

Leon Camier and Tom Sykes completed the top 5.

Melandri was the clear winner today, but behind the leader the action was extremely tight. The top 10 riders all finished within .8 seconds of one another.
