Despite an early crash, Carlos Checa topped the timesheets during the first free practice session for the World Superbike series at Miller Motorsports Park. Checa set a 1’48.914 lap time during FP1, beating the competition by more than a half second.
Checa, who did the double at MMP in 2008, is looking for his fifth win of the 2011 World Superbike season this weekend.
Checa was followed by Leon Camier and 2010 World Superbike champion Max Biaggi. Biaggi has yet to score a win this season, and for the first time in a long time, his Aprilia didn’t have the top speed of the session. That honor goes to the two BMWs ridden by Smrz and Ruben Xaus, who both hit 194 mph down the straight.
