Carlos Checa and the Althea Ducati team are happy to be traveling overseas to the United States for the fifth round of the World Superbike season at Miller Motorsports Park. Checa has had mixed results at the Utah track, but the Althea Ducati rider insists that MMP is the perfect track for his riding style.
“Miller is a track that suits me very well,” Checa said. “It is perhaps the best track for me and my riding style.”
Checa did the double at Miller in 2008, but hasn’t had good luck at the track recently. Checa set the lap record in 2010, but technical problems earned him two DNFs.
But Checa is hopeful that he can turn his American luck around. Checa has won four of the 8 races so far during the 2011 World Superbike season, and has only finished off of the podium twice.
“I’d say that, seeing how both I and my bike are performing right now, that we will be able to adapt well to the track this year,” Checa said. “We’ll see which tires are made available and work to find the best combination.
“I’m feeling confident. We have to finish what we were unable to finish last year."
Checa currently leads the World Superbike series over Marco Melandri and Max Biaggi.
