For the first time since 2002, the Kyalami circuit in South Africa will be graced by the presence of the Hanspree FIM Superbike World Championship. The sounds of high revving, octane-drinking motorcycles, accompanied by the smell of smoldering tires, will fill the air in South Africa as the racers arrive for the race this weekend.
The race consists of 11 left-hand curves and 6 rights. When the manufacturer test teams rounded the circuit, Michel Fabrizio, Ducati Xerox rider, was the quickest, ahead of Ben Spies, Yamaha World Superbike, and Noriyuki Haga, Ducati Xerox.
Not racing at the South African track are BMW Motorrad Motorsport rider, Troy Corser and Team Suzuki Alstare Brux rider, Max Neukirchner. Corser will be replaced by the team’s test-rider Steve Martin. After suffering two painful crashes in the Monza round, the team has decided to let Corser recuperate for the Miller Motorsports Park round at the end of the month. Neukirchner will be replaced by former team member Fonsi Nieto. While Nieto is familiar with the race team, he is unfamiliar with the GSX-R1000 K9.
