James Toseland will not be racing this weekend at Donington Park, and it is likely that he will miss at least one more event in the 2011 World Superbike calendar. Toseland has a fractured wrist, and is expected to be out of action for about 6-weeks.
Toseland fractured his wrist during a testing session in Spain. Toseland has had successful surgery on his wrist, and will more than likely miss the Donington Park and Assen rounds. Toseland currently has wires in his wrist that won't be removed for six weeks.
After the accident, Toseland was told that he would be ready to race at Donington. But severe pain forced him to call in a second opinion.
"My main priority was being fit enough to race at Donington," said James, "so I was really pleased when I was told in Spain that I would be ok. But when I got back to the hotel, the pain in my right wrist was unbelievable and, considering that I had a race coming up in a week's time, I sent the scan on to a specialist I know in Manchester."
The doctor in Manchester took a few more x-rays of Toseland's wrist, and decided that surgery was necessary.
"I had expected him to confirm that everything was alright and give me the all-clear, so it came as a bit of a shock, to be honest. It's a massive disappointment from a racing point of view."
Toseland's main goal now will be to get healthy before the Monza round of the World Superbike on May 8th.
