2010 World Superbike Preview: Silverstone

wsbk_silverstoneThe World Superbike riders should be fresh and ready for action as the series heads to Great Britain for round 10 at Silverstone after a three week Hiatus. The World Superbike series hasn't been to Silverstone since 2007, and since then, the world famous track has seen a few modifications. But the Silverstone track is still known for one thing, and that's speed.

The fast and open racetrack will be beneficial for Max Biaggi, who is already having an outstanding season. Biaggi has four doubles so for this season, and nine total wins. He has only finished off the podium five times, and his lowest finish of the season was in 8th place. Biaggi now has a 68 point lead in the overall standings.

If anyone is going to catch Biaggi, it will be Leon Haslam, and he will have to make some headway at Silversone. Haslam will have the crowd on his side at the Great Britain track, but he isn't the only one.

There are at least 7 riders in the World Superbike paddock who hail from the UK, making Silverstone the track where a new rider can show his face on the top of the podium.

Jonathan Rea is currently third on the podium, and is coming off a series of successes. Rea took a 1-2 finish at BRNO, and recently finished in 3rd during the Suzuka 8 Hour. Rea is on a bit of a hot streak, and should give Biaggi a run for his money.

Carlos Checa may not be a favorite to catch Biaggi by the end of the World Superbike, but he does have a good chance of finishing on the podium. Checa is just 14 points behind Rea.
