2010 World Superbike Preview: BRNO

wsbk_monza_biaggiRound nine of the 2010 World Superbike series heads to the Czech Republic for this weekend's race at BRNO. Max Biaggi is coming off of a double win in Italy, and will look to extend his 37 point championship lead.

Biaggi has 8 wins so far this season, and with only five rounds left in the WSBK, he is becoming the clear favorite to win the title. Biaggi has been on a hot streak, and this weekend he will return to one of his favorite WSBK tracks.

"To say the least, Brno is a track I like and that's no mystery for anyone,” said Biaggi. “It's a track where I can really express my full potential and I have obtained a lot of important wins there. For sure I like to remember last year's, the first with Aprilia in Superbike. It was an important moment, because our bike was still in an early stage of development, but we got that great result anyway. Now that we have scored more wins we must not forget how much work has been put into the project by everyone all together, to reach this level of competitiveness.”

Leon Haslam is still in contention for the WSBK series championship, but he'll have to take some points at BRNO if he wants to catch Biaggi by the season's end.

"Max Biaggi is obviously the rider to beat at the moment because he and his bike are working really well together," said Haslam. "But, I'm going to fight all the way this weekend and hopefully claw some of the points back.”

Haslam is Biaggi's only real contender for the Championship. Third place rider Carlos Checa is 98 points behind Haslam, and 135 behind Biaggi. But the battle for the last spot on the podium is still far from over.

Jonathan Rea, Noriyuki Haga, and Troy Corser are all clear contenders for the third place spot. With only five rounds remaining, every point becomes more important, as the race for the title continues at BRNO.
