Jakub Smrz, who set a record time during the first qualifying session, coudln't find enough speed to pull past Max Biaggi during the second qualifying session at Miller Motorsports Park. Biaggi finished with a 1'48.115 second time, just one tenth of a second ahead of Smrz.
Troy Corser had an impressive race day as the BMW man pulled into third place, two hundredths of a second behind Smrz.
After Corser it was all Ducati, with the Italian manufacturer taking spots 4 through 6. The privateer Ducati rider, Carlos Checa, finished in the fourth place spot, followed closely by Shane Byrne and Michele Fabrizio.
Season leader Leon Haslam took an 8th place finish for the day, a half a second behind Biaggi.
Just look in Q1, the competition around Miller Motorsports Park was fierce. The top 12 riders all finished under the 1 minute 49 second mark, and the top 13 riders were all within a second of Biaggi.
