Biaggi Beats Out British Duo for Race 1 Win

wsbk_monza_biaggi_race1Max Biaggi was the man to beat going into the first race at Monza. Biaggi had piloted his bike to two top speed records for World Superbike riders around the Monza track, earning him the pole position at race one. The race one win was hotly contested, however, but no one was able to get the best of Biaggi.

Biaggi led the race from lap three onward, after a brief surge by Leon Haslam, but never managed to pull away into a comfortable lead. Haslam, James Toseland, and Cal Crutchlow, all tailed Biaggi by less than a second throughout race one.

The two Yamaha riders crossed the finish line less than three tenths of a second behind Biaggi. Toseland claiming second, followed closely by Crutchlow.

The season leader came across the line next with a fourth place finish less than a second behind Biaggi. Leon Camier crossed the checkered flags next, to close out the top five.

Today’s win at Monza was Biaggi’s third win of the season, and brings the Aprilia rider within 8 points of the season leader, Haslam.
