Yoshimura Suzuki was set to make its three race debut in the 2010 World Superbike Championships last weekend in Assen, but due to the volcanic ash hanging over most of Europe, and heavy restrictions on flights, the team was forced to scrap its initial plans, and instead, will be making its debut in Italy. The Yoshimura Suzuki team will still compete in three races this WSBK season. The team will debut this weekend at Monza, and then will return to the series for the final two rounds in Italy and France.
The Yoshimura team is uncrating a modified version of its GSX-R1000, the same bike that won the 2009 Suzuka 8 hours race. Yukio Kagayama will pilot the Suzuki bike around the track at both Monza, and at the final round in France.
"We will participate with Yukio Kagayama as first race to enter the WSBK, and also the final round in Magny-Cours in October also with Kagayama. His experiences in these courses and WSBK will show the high performance,” the Yoshimura team said in a release.
“Then we enter the race at Imola in September with Daisaku Sakai. It is going to be his first race at WSBK, however his experiences of Suzuka 8H and Suzuka GP250 wild card entrant should help him."
The Yoshimura team is a well-respected and well-decorated team that dates back to 1954. The Yoshimura team plans to compete for the entire 2011 WSBK season.
