Jonathan Rea and Ten Kate Honda pleased their home crowd today as both picked up their first win of the 2010 World Superbike season. Rea started from pole position, but was challenged late by James Toseland. Toseland, who started tenth, had the lead with just three laps to go. But a few quick sprints around the track at the end, gave Rea a comfortable win of 1.1 seconds.
Toseland finished second today, claiming his best finish of the season, and Leon Camier rose to third to complete an all Briton podium. Camier’s third place finish is also the best result he has achieved during his debut season at the WSBK. Carlos Checa, who is third in the overall standings, finished fourth.
Troy Corser gave BMW its first-ever front row start yesterday, and he looked like he was the man to beat around the Circuit Van Drenthe. Corser led for ten laps around the Assen track, but eventually slowed, and ended with a fifth place finish.
Sixth place went to Max Biaggi. Biaggi, who is in second in the overall standings, only gains five points on the season leader, Leon Haslam, who finished eleventh for the day.
With Honda's first race victory of the season, the number of winning manufacturers rises to four. Suzuki, Aprilia, Ducati and Honda have all taken top honors during the 2010 WSBK season.
