Biaggi Doubles at Portimao Hot

The second race at Portimao was a race that was up for grabs. The top four riders were within 1.01 seconds of each other, and many different riders led at some point during the event. But Max Biaggi led when it counted the most, and crossed the finish line at the front of the pack.

Biaggi also won the first race of the day, to give the Aprila Alitalia rider his first ever WSBK double. The win also gives Biaggi a good boost in the standings, moving him into second place behind Leon Haslam.

Haslam, who has won or come in second at every race so far in the 2010 WSBK season, maintains 16 points ahead of the impressive Biaggi as he finished just behind the Portimao champ for the second time today.

Behind Haslam came Cal Crutchlow to give Yamaha its first podium finish of the 2010 WSBK season. Crutchlow faltered in the first race and finished in 14th after setting a record breaking lap in Superpole.

Carlos Checa came in fourth place to add some good points to his total. Checa is now in third in the point totals with 60, behind Biaggi with 69, and Haslam with 85.

Leon Camier tied his best WSBK finish with a spot at fifth place.

Jonathan Rea, who has continued to move up on the leader board, suffered a mechanical problem and had to drop out of the race.
