With one race remaining in the 2011 British Superbike season, Tommy Hill and John Hopkins are separated by just two points at the top of the standings. Shane Byrne came out victorious after the second race and moved into third place ahead of Michael Laverty.
"That win feels to me like I have just won the championship!" Byrne said. "We have been giving it everything and I wanted nothing less than two wins today. We had a good start but in the first laps I didn't do a very good job of avoiding the damp patches and I had a few moments - in fact more than I think I have had in my whole career! I didn't know who was behind me but I knew I wasn't prepared to let them through. I have to thank the HM Plant Honda team as I have had two crashes this weekend and they deserve this result after their hard work. We have done everything we can and all I can say is I have done everything I can to try and win the championship."
Hopkins, who stepped up to the podium yesterday and extended his lead to 8 points over Tommy Hill, had an unfortunate accident on the second lap of race two. Tommy Hill was able to claim fourth place today and now trails Hopkins by just two points.
