John Hopkins and Josh Brookes took a win apiece today at Silverstone during the penultimate round of the British Superbike championship.
Hopkins took a victory and a third place finish at Silverstone and was able to extend his lead to 8 points over Tommy Hill in the overall standings. Hill took two podium finishes, but couldn't find the top of the podium.
Michael Laverty challenged Hopkins for the race one victory. Lavery lead for the majority of the race but Hopkins was able to overtake on the ninth lap, and beat the Swan Yamaha rider to the finish line by a quarter of a second.
"It was a good win but hard to get ahead of Michael and when I did I was not able to make the break away from him," explained Hopkins. "The pain was severe at the end of the race and I racing with a special glove that I had made to protect the finger. If you want to win the championship, then you have to keep going."
Hopkins did his best to keep going in race two, but the American rider couldn't quite keep pace with Brookes and Hill.
Hopkins was able to extend his lead in the British Superbike championship, but not by much. The BSB title will be decided at Brands Hatch in two weeks.
