Tommy Hill and the Oulton Park track haven't gotten along lately. Hill injured his shoulder at Oulton Park earlier this year, and in 2010, his British Superbike title hopes vanished after a heavy crash at the Cheshire circuit. But this time, in extremely poor conditions, Hill was able to pull out the victory.
"The win was just what we needed, and it was a case of using all of the grip we could get. I had to keep my concentration and just make sure I didn't crash," Hill said.
Title contender John Hopkins wasn't as lucky at Oulton Park. Hopkins, who is currently in second, crashed out of contention during the first BSB race. Hill's victory and Hopkins' DNF puts Hill just 17 points out of second place. Shane Byrne was able to take fourth this weekend, and maintains a 32 point lead at the top.
"I just carried on," Hill continued. "The rain was coming down even heavier as the race went on but I felt comfortable just keeping chipping away and getting into a good rhythm and keeping that going through the race. I think the team probably wanted me to slow down but I just didn't want to lose that win."
Hill won the only race at Oulton Park over the weekend, as the second race was cancelled due to the extreme storms in the area. The second Oulton Park race has been rescheduled to take place in August at Cadwell Park.
