British Superbike Round 2

British SBK: Camier takes double win and championship lead

camier double win

Leon Camier powered his Airwaves Yamaha to his maiden double victory in the ViSK British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park this afternoon.

Karl Harris took his second podium finish of the day for the Hydrex Honda team, with Worx Crescent Suzuki rider Sylvain Guintoli taking third.

Stuart Easton made a flying start for the second time today, taking the lead into Old Hall ahead of team-mate Karl Harris and the MSS Colchester Kawasaki of Simon Andrews.

Camier started his attack early, passing Glen Richards at Shell Oils corner to move to fourth.

Camier then passed Andrews at Cascades to elevate himself to third and then he had the Hydrex Honda riders in his sights.

At the front the Hydrex Hondas were battling for supremacy at the end of the opening lap, with Harris taking the inside line into Lodge to give him the lead, but on the run up to Deers Leap Easton got the better exit and was back at the front when they crossed the line side by side.

Easton's lead was short lived though; he suffered a technical failure that forced him to retire from the lead on the second lap, leaving team-mate Harris to lead the race. However Camier was hard-charging on the Airwaves Yamaha, he forced his way past at Lodge just a lap later.

Glen Richards was also on the move, passing Andrews on lap seven to take the advantage, but the MSS Colchester Kawasaki rider was straight back at him, overtaking at Cascades. Richards then came under attack from James Ellison when he past at Brittens on lap nine.

Guintoli had not made the best of starts for the second time today, but undeterred he battled his way up to fifth by lap ten, passing Andrews on the brakes at Old Hall. A lap later Richards was his next victim, with Guintoli taking the inside line into Shell Oils corner.

Josh Brookes was making good progress on the HM Plant Honda; by lap twelve he made a move on Andrews at Old Hall to put himself seventh. A lap later he out-braked Ian Lowry into Brittens to put him just outside the top five. His challenges were cut short though when he suffered a technical problem on the HM Plant Honda and was forced to come into the pitlane.

As the race reached the final laps the battle for the final podium position intensified with Guintoli overtaking James Ellison on the Airwaves Yamaha for third and despite his best efforts he had to settle for fourth.
