Luca Scassa took the opening round win at Phillip Island for the World Supersport class, but not by much. Scassa edged out Broc Parkes by the thinnest of margins, winning by .09 seconds.
Scassa, riding for the ParkinGo Yamaha team, gave Yamaha a warm welcome back to the World Supersport series. Yamaha helped Cal Crutchlow claim the World Supersport title in 2009, but did not participate in the 2010 season.
Behind Scassa, Parkes got the Kawasaki Motocard team off to a great start with a second place finish.
A third manufacturer found the podium today in Phillip Island, as Sam Lowes took the third place spot for the Parkalgar Honda team. Lowes has a few Supersport races under his belt, but this will be his first fulltime season in the WSS series.
