Laverty Wins Race, Sofuoglu Takes the Title Hot

wss_laverty_magnycoursFor the second time in his career, Kenan Sofuoglu has been crowned the World Supersport champion. Sofuoglu was able to maintain his lead in the series, despite the best effort of Eugene Laverty.

Laverty took the win today at Magny Cours, his 8th victory in 13 races, but it wasn't enough to topple Sofuoglu. Sofuoglu had a 16 point lead going into the race, and his second place finish was more than enough to keep him at the top.

Sofuoglu won the World Supersport title in 2007, and his return to the top comes along with the return of Ten Kate Honda. A Ten Kate Honda rider has been on the top of the podium for most of the decade, but they didn't win in 2009. Sofuoglu was able to put himself, and his team, back ontop of the Supersport world.

Behind Laverty and Sofuoglu, was Chaz Davies on this Triumph to claim third in the race, and fourth in the overall standings. The injured Joan Lascorz was able to claim third place in the World Supersport series, despite missing the last few races.
