Kenan Sofuoglu claimed the provision pole today at Nurburgring, narrowly beating out David Salom by just .001 seconds. Sofuoglu set his time of 1'59.276 early in the session, and no one came close to beating it except for Salom, who missed it by the smallest of margins.
Sofuoglu and Salom were well ahead of the pack, as the next rider was more than a half a second back. Gino Rea, who finished on the podium at Silverstone, would continue his impressive streak at Nurburgring to claim third during the qualifying session.
Katsuaki Fujiwara took fourth place, and was the highest ranking Kawasaki on the track today as Joan Lascorz is sitting out with an injury. Season leader Eugene Laverty finished fifth.
Three of the top five riders took falls during the qualifying session today. Sofuoglu, Rea, and Laverty all saw spills at the Nurburgring track, but all managed to put up fast times as well.
Fabien Foret and Broc Parkes put in solid finishes to place 6th and 7th, ahead of Michele Pirro, Mathieu Lagrive, and Mark Aitchison, who rounded out the top ten.
