2010 World Supersport Preview: Nurburgring

wss_laverty_sofuogluIn the World Superbike division, Max Biaggi has the comfort of a 68 point lead. Kenan Sofuoglu, who currently leads the World Supersport, doesn't have that luxury.

Sofuoglu is just 17 points ahead of Eugene Laverty. It's a good size lead going into the final stretch of the season, and if anyone besides Laverty was challenging for the title, Sofuoglu would be able to rest easy.

But Laverty has won 6 out of the ten races so far this season, three more than Sofuoglu. If it wasn't for a few bad races, Laverty would be at the top of the charts right now.

Instead, Laverty is going to have to come from behind, and he'll have to start at Nurburgring. Sofuoglu has finished on the podium at every race this season, so Laverty can't wait for him to make a mistake. Laverty will have to take race wins if he wants to move into the lead.

Laverty and Sofuoglu are safe at the top for now. Third place rider Joan Lascorz was injured at Silverstone, and will likely miss the rest of the season, and fourth place rider Chaz Davies, is 60 points behind Laverty.

There are three events left in the World Supersport series, and the battle for the title will come down to the two honda riders.
