Eugene Laverty made his way to the top of the time sheets today, winning the first qualifying session of the World Supersport at Silverstone. Laverty was followed by Gino Rea and Joan Lascorz.
Laverty and Lascorz are used to standing on the podium at a race's end, but Gino Rea has yet to achieve a podium finish this season. Rea's quick time during the first qualifying shows that he is capable of achieving a top spot at Silverstone.
Behind Lascorz was Kenan Sofuoglu, who currently leads the World Supersport series. Sofuoglu is only 15 points ahead of Lascorz, and 22 points ahead of Laverty, making Sunday's race all that more important.
There are only four races left in the World Superbike series, including Silverstone, and every point counts.
