Jason DiSalvo will not be returning to Europe to continue the second half of the World Supersport season. DiSalvo and his ParkinGO BE1 Triumph team have decided to go seperate ways.
DiSalvo, an American, has proven that he can win in the AMA Supersport, Superstock, and Formula Xtreme classes, but has not found success at the world level.
Di Salvo was a late addition to the Triumph ParkinGO BE1 team, as Triumph decided not to sign Garry McCoy, and instead decided to run a four rider team. The extended roster, according to DiSalvo, hindered his World Supersport performance.
"The guys on the ParkinGO team really gave me an education about racing at this level, and I thank them for all they've done,” DiSalvo said. “Being the only team with double the number of riders has made it difficult for each of us to perform at our best.
“I'm dedicated to the craft of racing that I love so much, but with my bike regularly showing 5-10 mph less speed than the others through the traps, there's a truth that neither of us can ignore.
“I hope that with one less rider these guys can do better and that I can find a team who's ready to benefit from my riding. Again, I thank the team for trying as hard as they could with what they have to work with."
DiSalvo currently ranks in at 15th in the overall standings, and has a best finish of 8th for the season.
"I am sad that Jason decided to leave the team and am sure he would have eventually done just as well as his teammates, if he had a little bit more faith. We've done everything in order for him to perform at his best, as we've done with Matthieu Lagrive who took fifth place at Assen and finished twice sixth, at Monza and Kyalami," said team manager Giuliano Rovelli.
"We are the team representing Triumph in the world championship and we've always treated our riders well. Maybe Jason couldn't find the right feeling with the bike or perhaps couldn't quite adapt to the competition. However, I wish him to sign with a team that fits him best."
DiSalvo's teammates Chaz Davies and David Salom are in fourth and fifth in the overall standings.
