The Monza track is known as the “temple of speed,” and with an already fiercely completive season underway for the World Supersport riders, the Monza track will be sure to add some extra fire to the mix. Three riders have found themselves on the top of the podium, but only one has two race wins to his name. Eugene Laverty won the first round of the World Super Sport season, and the most recent race at Assen, but still sits in third in the overall standings. Laverty has been either unbeatable or non-existent this season, and will look to Monza to show that he can be consistent.
The season leader, Joan Lascorz, has never finished below second place this season, and it is that consistency that has won him the top spot on the leader board. Lascorz will have tough competition around the Monza track, but you can be sure that he will be standing somewhere on the podium when all is said and done.
Kenan Sofuoglu takes the second place spot in the overall standings, 11 points ahead of Laverty and just 8 points behind Lascorz. Sofuoglu is another rider who has always managed to find a place on the podium. But Sufouglu will have to beat out riders like Chaz Davies and Robbin Harms at Monza.
Davies is riding the top Triumph in fourth place, while Harms and his Honda take fifth.
