Kenan Sofuoglu was at the top of his game during the first qualifying round at Assen, as he improved upon his best lap five times throughout the day. Sofuoglu ended up with a best lap of 1’38.250, three tenths faster than his Ten Kate Honda teammate Michel Pirro. Pirro had a fall early in the race, but was able to recover to claim the second fastest time ahead of Fabien Foret. Eugene Laverty, who has struggled since his dominant win at Phillip Island, came in fourth behind Foret.
David Slalom should be happy with his fifth place finish, and teammate Matheiu Lagrive gave the BEI racing team his best finish since joining the team with a 6th place finish.
Katsuaki Fujiwara finished just ahead of the 2010 WSS leader Joan Lascorz. Chaz Davies and Gino Rea finish off the top ten.
