2010 World Supersport Preview: Assen

wss_lazcorz_valenciaThree races have been completed this World Supersport season, and three different racers have found themselves on the top of the podium. Joan Lascorz, Kenan Sofuoglu, and Eugene Laverty have all won one race during the 2010 WSS season, and sit at the top of the overall leader board

Laverty started the season off with a bang, but since his dominant win at Phillip Island, he has failed to live up to his high expectations. Laverty didn’t make it to the podium at either Valencia or Poritmao, and now sits in third behind Sofuoglu and Lascorz. But Laverty does go into this race knowing that he can win at Assen. Laverty was the 2009 race winner at Assen last year.

"I didn't expect to win at Assen in 2009 but we came away with top honours," Laverty said. "I went for it then and I'll be doing the same this weekend for a repeat performance. Assen suits the Parkalgar Honda and I enjoy it. A new corner on the back straight should make the track faster and I like that as well. I want and need to bounce back from the last two rounds with a win."wsbk_assen

Lascorz, who got his first win at the last round in Valencia, has yet to finish off of the podium this season. With a race win and two second place finishes, Lascorz earns the top spot on the leader board by four points ahead of Sofuoglu.

Lascorz, Sofuoglu, and Laverty will all be in tight contention for the top spot at Assen, but Triumph riders Chaz Davies and David Slalom are hungry for podium finishes. Davies gave Triumph its first ever podium finish at Valencia, and with teammate Slalom coming in fourth, Triumph achieved its best weekend in WSS history.
