Lascorz Wins in Front of Home Crowd

wss_lazcorz_valenciaThe Ricardo Tormo circuit in Valencia, Spain, is proving to be a treacherous one. The first race of the World Superbike was littered with crashes, with a total of 6 riders being forced to retire, and the World Supersport race saw much of the same.

Only twelve riders finished today’s race, with Joan Lascorz coming out on top. Lascorz rode to his third career victory in front of  his home crowd, pushing Lascorz to the top of the leader board ahead of Kenan Sofuoglu.

Lascorz managed to pull ahead of the pack, ultimately finishing three seconds ahead of his closest competitor, and the battle for second became a race between Sofuoglu and Chaz Davies. Davies, who only has 6 WSS starts to his name, and was riding on an unproven Triumph Daytona 675, gave Sofuoglu a run for his money. But ultimately, the experienced Honda rider was able to pull ahead for the second place finish.

Sofuoglu’s second place finish keeps the leader board close, dropping him only four points behind Lascroz. Davies may not have been able to hold onto second place, but he was able to give Triumph its best finish ever at this level, as well as earn his first podium finish.

In fourth place came fellow Triumph rider David Salom. The third and fourth place finish by Davies and Salom make it the most successful WSS weekend for the Triumph manufacturer.

Eugene Laverty, who started the race in the pole position, finished fifth.
