Katsuaki Fujiwara was the fastest around the track today as he claims the provisional pole at the third round of the World Supersport Championship.
Fujiwara’s time of 1.36.319 was set early in the day and was fast enough to resist charges by Joan Lascorz and Michel Pirro.
Fujiwara’s Kawasaki Motocard teammate, Lascorz, came in second just two tenths behind the leader. The two Kawasaki riders beat out Hannspree Ten Kate Honda’s Michele Pirro, and Parkalgar Honda’s Eugene Laverty, who came in fourth.
Fifth place went to David Salom, who continues to get faster on his Triumph Daytona 675. Salom was standing on the podium for most of the day, but the late charges of Lascorz and Pirro dropped him down into fifth place.
Salom’s teammate Chaz Davies came in sixth, and Portimao winner Kenan Sofuoglu finished 7th.
Fujiwara will look to hold onto the pole position during tomorrows qualifying round, which will be his first since 2003.
