Entering into the third round of the World Supersport season, Kenan Sofuoglu is at the front of the pack. With a win at Portimao, and a podium finish at Phillip Island, Sofuoglu goes into Valenica with 41 points. “I was so happy to win the race at Portimao, and it was good to give something back to my team who have worked so hard since last season to make the CBR600RR a winning bike again,” said Sofuoglu. “I was on the podium last year at Valencia, but it was a difficult race for us."
Joan Lascorz is only one point behind Sofuoglu, and has finished second at both races so far. Lascorz will be racing in front of his home crowd at Valencia, and will be looking to finally ascend to the top of the podium.
Next in line comes Eugene Laverty, who started the WSS season with a dominant performance at Phillip Island. But after a crash at Portimao, and an 11th place finish, the Irish rider dropped down to third place with 30 points.
The top three riders should be in close contention at the end of the race at Valencia, but it wouldn’t be surprising if Fabien Foret, Chaz Davies, or any of the other WSS riders crossed the finish line first. Davies jumped from a 12th place finish at Phillip Island to a fourth place finish at Portimao, and shows no sign of slowing down.
Rookie Gino Rea has also made considerable improvements.
"We have progressed at each race, tenth to eighth and the team are working hard to help me find a good set-up. At Valencia and I hope we can continue our progress and get an even better result,” said Rea. “Bring on Valencia.”
