The Red Bull Rookies Cup race at BRNO was an exciting one for fans, but a difficult one for the racers. Heavy rains caused multiple crashes on the slippery Czech circuit. 14-year-old American Joe Roberts was able to take his first Rookies win, while Alan Techer took his second win in three races.
Roberts, who had a poor qualifying, started the first race from the back of the grid after rain halted the first portion of the race.
"The first race, I don't even want to think about it. I was last on the grid for the restart. I wasn't happy that it rained but then on the sighting lap I realized that there was quite a lot of grip. I just had to go for it."
The second race was just as exciting as Techer, Tomas Vavrous, and Scott Deroue went neck and neck around the Czech circuit.
"It was the most incredible race," said Techer. "So close, we were touching at almost every corner. The last three laps it was a battle between myself, Tomas, Scott and Arthur. I opened the gas as early as I could through the last corner, I had a bit of a slide but I hung on and won. It was such a tough race, so great to win."
