U.S. AMA Red Bull Rookies cup get’s canceled
They keep the European hopes alive and the U.S suffers from the tough economy. However, Malaysia launches a new series to keep growing their youngsters why can’t we?
One of the reason’s that the motorcycle industry is not as big here in the States as it is in Europe is commitment. We look at the expansion even in a down economy of the championships across the pond and in Asia, why can’t we keep putting on the pressure to keep our homegrown talent in the spotlight?
The AMA struggled to pull an agreement together and now our youngsters won’t have the chance to reach for stardom in their own country, due to the cancellation of the Red Bull Rookie cup. It just goes to show that there really isn’t enough exposure to the sport from the U.S to the rest of the world. Everyone that enjoys motorbike/cycle racing is aware of Kevin Schwantz and everyone realizes what he was trying to do with the series, let’s hope sponsorship comes back for 2010.

In a time when companies around the world have been affected by the current state of the economy, the racing industry has not been immune. Due to a significant reduction of key partner support, Red Bull has made the tough decision to cancel the 2009 Red Bull AMA U.S. Rookies Cup season. This choice was not easy, as the program saw thrilling racing action and rider development in its groundbreaking inaugural U.S. season. The overall aim of the Rookies Cup remains, however, to give as many talented young riders as possible the chance to progress toward the highest level of Grand Prix motorcycle racing. Based on their success in the 2008 Red Bull AMA U.S. Rookies Cup, two riders, series champion Benny Solis of North Holly
wood, Calif., and Hayden Gillim, of Owensboro, Ky., have advanced to compete on the world stage in Europe in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup.
