Steven Nickerson is currently the top ranked amateur road racer in Canada. He has just wrapped up his first season in the Amateur Sport Bike class of the 2010 Parts Canada Superbike Championship series where he finished third overall in the final standings.

Just this week, Nickerson was informed that he has been selected for the 2011 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup tryouts taking place 13 – 15 September at the Monteblanco circuit outside of Sevilla, Spain. He will have an incredible opportunity to ride and compete with the other 13 to 17-year-old racers selected from around the world who will all ride under the watchful eyes of the selection committee. If Nickerson is chosen he will be one of the 10 to 15 future stars chosen to fill the open slots available for next year’s
series.
The Red Bull Rookies Cup is designed to help develop the next generation of top-tier motorcycle racers who will hopefully join such series as MotoGP and the World Superbike Championship.
The young competitors selected for this unique opportunity get to race against similarly skilled riders with spec-KTM RC125 race bikes on the major road race circuits of Europe – most races coinciding with MotoGP rounds. Steven Nickerson will be taking his first steps onto the world stage and we may yet see much more of him on the track.
