Nate Adams may have a 40 point lead over Dany Torres heading into the final showdown this weekend in Sydney, but the 2011 Red Bull X-Fighters Championship title is still up for grabs. Adams recently underwent surgery on his right shoulder, which may open the door for Torres during the final round.
"I had a shoulder operation just a few days ago," said Nate Adams (USA). "But I'm nevertheless going out there to try to defend my title."
Adams has been the dominant rider this season. Adams picked up three wins in Brasilia, Rome, and Poznan, and a few gold medals at the X-games. The only time that Adams lost a head-to-head battle during 2011 Red Bull X-Fighters season was in Dubai when Dany Torres took the win.
Realistically, all Adams has to do to secure the championship is play it safe this weekend in Sydney. A solid showing should net him the championship. But play it easy? That isn't exactly something that these high flying freestyle riders are known for.
