Stunting isn't new, but the XDL is. The Sportbike Freestyle Championships have only been around for about five years, but the XDL is the driving force behind the sport, and every year it sees its audience grow.
Started in 2006 as a three event series, the XDL has doubled in size. With events in Flordia, California, Tennessee, Arizona, and Indiana this year, the XDL is working to become a country-wide series.
"XDL represents a sport and our goal is to grow it." said the XDL in a statement. "In the short term we are focusing on building strong relationships with the top athletes through the national championship. Medium term we want to build out the base some more by sanctioning other competitions and developing a regional ladder system. Long term we'd like to work with motorcycle manufacturers and the industry in general to develop an infrastructure of "riding parks."
The XDL is a place where world class riders like Bill Dixon, Luke Emmons, and Nick Brocha call home. Currently, there are close to 30 professional riders that compete in the XDL, competing in events like individual freestyle, the circle challenge, and the wheelie race.
