Unofficial Lap Record - TT Zero Closes in on 100 MPH Hot

isleofman_motoczyscThe Isle of Man TT Zero riders are continually improving their speed around the mountain course on the Isle of Man. Today, Moto Czysz rider Mark Miller set a new lap record for electric motorcycle racing, setting a lap speed of 94.664 mph.

The impressive, but unofficial time, since it was not recorded during a race, beat the 2009 race record set by Team Agni. Team Agni set a speed of 87.434 mph in 2009.

Moto Czysz led the entire time during today's practice session. Defending champion Rob Barber and Team Agni were next across the line with a 83.68 mph lap time. Third place went to the local team ManTTx and James Mcbride.

The Isle of Man government is offering a 10,000 pound prize for the first electric motorcycle team to accomplish the 100mph lap. Several teams had moments above 100 mph today, but none could maintain the speed for the entire lap.

“I’m really confident now with the bike and will happily not touch it now until the race. I think that the bike is capable of achieving the 100mph lap as we still have something in reserve but it will require everything going right on race day.”
