Dainese is sponsoring the Senior TT race at the Isle of Man in June, and they have been the official safety sponsor for the Isle of Man TT since 2008. But Dainese is doing more than just providing financial backing for the legendary event, they are also bringing in one of the hottest GP racers riding today, and one of the greatest GP racers in history, to ride an honorary lap. Angel Nieto and Jorge Lorenzo will visit the Isle of Man and take a ride around the 37.73 mile mountain course on June 11th, before the races begin.
Lorenzo was the runner up at last year’s MotoGP championship, and finished second at the 2010 MotoGP season opener in Qatar. He was the 50cc world champion in 2006 and 2007. Lorenzo’s teammate, Valentino Rossi, was the special guest at the 2009 Isle of Man.
“I’m very glad to have the opportunity to be at the Tourist Trophy this year and ride the Yamaha R1 together with Angel,” said Lorenzo. “It will be a great honor for me, because this is one of the most famous and epic races, it still keeps all the meaning of real motorcycling and pilots who ride here deserve the biggest respect.”
Angel Nieto is a legendary rider, who has 12 + 1 (the superstitious rider doesn’t like the number 13) Grand Prix championships to his name, and 90 GP wins.
“It was many years ago last time I’ve been on the Isle of Man and it will be a great emotion to be there again, at the Tourist Trophy,” said Nieto. “It is a very difficult circuit, only for very talented pilots, and a special race, very different from the Moto GP ones. To win the TT has always been very important for any racers.
