MotoGP Brno Test: Lorenzo Fastest Hot

MotoGP: Looking to immediately rebuild his confidence after Sunday’s crash, Jorge Lorenzo made a good start in testing in the Czech Republic on Monday morning

MotoGP Press Release

Lorenzo Brno

Fiat Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo was the fastest man during the first three hours of testing at Brno on Monday, registering a rapid time of 1’56.171 on the 25th of his 32 laps, even though he and his teammate Valentino Rossi were the last riders to appear on track.

That time by Lorenzo was close to the new pole record set by Rossi on Saturday as the Spaniard successfully tested clutch and electronics settings and some new parts for 2010. Rossi was 0.867s behind Lorenzo in third place on the timesheet.

Dani Pedrosa was second quickest, half a second down on Lorenzo as the Catalan rider and his Repsol Honda colleague Andrea Dovizioso (fifth fastest so far) tested suspension systems amongst other items.

Loris Capirossi was fourth on the timesheet as he and Rizla Suzuki team-mate Chris Vermeulen tested their new chassis and engines.

There were crashes without consequence for Scot Racing’s Gabor Talmacsi and Ducati’s Nicky Hayden, whilst Spaniard David de Gea, who was testing for BQR and Dunlop on a Moto2 bike, crashed on his 19th lap, ending his day’s workout due to a foot injury. Shuhei Aoyama is therefore expected to stand in for De Gea this afternoon.

Other than De Gea the slowest rider on track was unsurprisingly Mattia Pasini as the regular 250cc rider found his feet with the Pramac Racing satellite Desmosedici for the first time – the Italian lapping a respectable four seconds down on Lorenzo.
