The winner of the Qatar Grand Prix isn't always the winner of the MotoGP world championship, but that's what happened in 2011. What about 2012? As the opening event in the FIM Grand Prix motorcycle racing season, the Qatar Grand Prix might tell us some things about how the MotoGP racing season will go.

If that's the case, then 2012 will be an exciting year and we'll need to keep an eye on Jorge Lorenzo.

Out the gate #99 Jorge Lorenzo took the lead from the pole on his factory Yamaha into turn one. Lorenzo was followed by #26 Dani Pedrosa and his teammate #1 Casey Stoner in third. Sadly the race took a familiar turn with Stoner getting by Pedrosa and then taking the lead on his Repsol Honda. Last year was a cake-walk for Casey Stoner and the factory Repsol Honda team.

Most of the 2012 Commercial Bank Grand Prix of Qatar at the Losail Circuit followed the steps that last year's season opener took - but things began to change in the closing laps when #2 Dani Pedrosa began to pressure second place Jorge Lorenzo.

On the straight Dani Pedrosa took second place from Jorge Lorenzo. While the two Spaniards battled each other, they also began to pull Casey Stoner within their grasp. Then in a brilliant two part move Lorenzo took second place back from Pedrosa and dipped under Stoner in turn one to take the lead.

Lorenzo then pulled away from the two factory Repsol Honda riders on his way to his first victory in Qatar.
