Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden will have to wait a few weeks to test the "90% new" Ducati GP12, but today World Superbike champion Carlos Checa will get his chance to take the bike for a spin around Jerez.
Checa will join Ducati test rider Franco Battaini for a three day private test at the Jerez circuit.
Ducati Corse boss Filippo Prezioso said that the new Ducati GP12 was 90% different from the GP11. Prezioso also said that Ducati was crushing a typical two-year development plan down to just a few months. Prezioso said:
"Ninety percent of the parts are brand new. We significantly changed the distribution of weight and the bike dimensions to be in the middle of the adjustment range... We are accelerating the process with forced steps... It's a courageous decision, but not impossible."
Checa and Battaini will be able to give Ducati some new data on the Ducati GP12 before the bike is sent to Sepang where Rossi and Hayden will get their first look at the new bike.
