Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden had a rough season in 2011 but things could change this year. Ducati Corse boss Filippo Prezioso gave a preview of the GP12 Ducati Desmosedici during the Wrooom event in Madonna di Campiglio and said that the machine has undergone a complete redesign.
Preziosi said that the Ducati team has been working on the bike since Rossi tested it in Valencia. Even though the motorcycle looks the same, Preziosi said, the majority of the bike has been improved.
"Ninety percent of the parts are brand new," Preziosi said: "We significantly changed the distribution of weight and the bike dimensions to be in the middle of the adjustment range."
Preziosi said that it usually takes two years to completely refine a race machine, but Ducati was accelerating the process to make sure Rossi and Haydern were competitive in 2012.
"We are accelerating the process with forced steps," Preziosi said. "It's a courageous decision, but not impossible."
Rossi and Hayden will both have a chance to test the new GP12 next month during a test in Sepang.
