This Sunday, the MotoGP riders will pay tribute to Marco Simoncelli before the final race of the 2011 season. After warm-up, and before the race, the riders are expected to have a minute of noise for Super Sic, revving their engines in front of a packed crowd in Spain.
But Marco deserves more than the 16 motorcycle salute from the MotoGP grid. An internet movement has started asking for Marco Simoncelli fans around the world to #MakeNoiseForMarcoSunday.
Motorcycle author Mark Gardiner at Bikewriter.com suggested in a blog post earlier this week that racing fans around the world could rev their engines at 10:30 (the time the MotoGP tribute is supposed to kick off) in honor of Marco Simoncelli.
Gardiner is encouraging riders around the globe to participate in the tribute. But to make things less complicated, Gardiner says that riders should use their local clock to schedule the tribute. That way racing fans can create a wave of motorcycle engine revving tributes that will climax at the track in Valencia.
Gardiner writes: Valencia is almost exactly half-way around the world from the International Date Line, so #MakeNoiseForMarcoSunday will begin in the western Pacific about 12 hours earlier and end in Hawaii about 12 hours later. The big noise in Valencia will be right in the middle of the 24-hour wave. That's perfect."
#MakeNoiseForMarcoSunday has become a trending topic on Twitter with people from all over the globe supporting the idea.
And if for some, unspeakable reason, your motorcycle has been put away for the Winter or has been confiscated by repo men, here's a video substitute. Now turn your speakers up and Make Some Noise for Marco.
Will you be revving your motorcycle Sunday morning?
