Marco Simoncelli was laid to rest today at a massive funeral at the Santa Maria Assunta church in Coriano, Italy. Thousands of fans, friends, and family members gathered to wish Super Sic one final farewell.
Simoncelli's casket was carried in by friends and members of the Gresini Racing team. Simoncelli's Gilera bike, the one he wonwon the 2008 250cc World Championship title with, was on the left side of the casket. His MotoGP bike, the Honda RC212V, was on the right side.
The funeral was attended by fellow riders like Valentino Rossi, Raffaele De Rosa, Chaz Davies, Mattia Pasini, Manuel Poggiali, Jorge Lorenzo, Andrea Dovizioso, Randy de Puniet, Loris Capirossi and Hiroshi Aoyama and Alex de Angelis. CEO of Dorna Sports, Carmelo Ezpeleta, and FIM president Vito Ippolito were also in attendance.
Rossi, who was a close friend and mentor of Simoncelli, rode Super Sics motorcycle out of the mass as thousands of fans cheered.
