The MotoGP season wraps up next weekend at Valencia. But the typically happy celebration will be a dark one this year, as the MotoGP grid continues to mourn the loss of Marco Simoncelli. The Gresini Honda team announced today that they will still travel to Valencia, and will set up Marco's #58 motorcycle to pay tribute to the fallen rider.
The Gresini Honda team has not decided of Hiroshi Aoyoma will race in the MotoGP class or if Michele Pirro and Yuki Takahashi will take part in the Moto2 race. Team owner Fausto Gresini said that the majority of the Honda Gresini squad would be present at the race and that his team will assemble the customary team box.
Gresini says that he has received countless messages over the last few days from riders, teams, fans, and factories, offering their sympathy for the loss of Marco.
On Tuesday, Gresini thanked everyone for showing their support. Gresini said:
"Thanks for the love shown to Marco. The star of "Super Sic" will shine forever in heaven! From Marco's family and the team, thank you."
