The last time John Hopkins set on a MotoGP bike he injured his right hand and had to miss a crucial round in the British Superbike Championship. Now that the BSB has wrapped up, Hopkins will venture out again onto the MotoGP circuit as a wildcard rider during the Malaysia GP for the Rizla Suzuki team this weekend.
Hopkins has stated several times this season that his goal is to return to the MotoGP. During his last outing, Hopkins was riding in the top 10 before his crash.
"I am really pumped to get this chance to ride in a MotoGP race with the Rizla Suzuki team," Hopkins said. "I thought after Brno that I wouldn't get the opportunity again and was really disappointed that I missed out there due to a silly mistake, so to be heading to Sepang is fantastic.
"I really want to get back into MotoGP and this is a great chance to show what I can do."
This will be Hopkins second wildcard entry in the MotoGP during the 2011 season, but it will be his third race. Hopkins stepped in for Alvaro Bautista while he recovered from an injury at the Spanish GP. Hopkins finished 10th in that race.
