After today's qualifying session, Valentino Rossi was sitting on the fifth row in 13th place. It wasn't where the Ducati rider wanted to start the Spanish race, but he'd probably take 13th over his new starting position, pit lane.
Rossi will be riding his Ducati out of pit lane, 10 seconds after the start of the race, due to an Engine Durability rule infringement.
Each rider is allowed 6 engines during the season. Valentino Rossi is using his 7th engine this weekend.
From the MotoGP:
"The current FIM Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix Regulations state that each rider is allowed six engines per season. Under the 'Penalties for infringement of article 2.3.7 (Engine durability in MotoGP)' section of the regulations, a rider will start the race from Pit Lane ten seconds after the race start if the infringement takes place before the race."
Each rider below Rossi on the grid will be moved up one position.
