Jorge Lorenzo took a big win today at San Marino. Lorenzo led from start to finish to beat out the Repsol Honda duo of Dani Pedrosa and Casey Stoner. Lorenzo now trails Stoner by 35 points in the overall standings.
Stoner started from the pole position, but Lorenzo battled with the season leader through turn one to take the lead. The Yamaha rider was able to hold off advances from Stoner and Pedrosa throughout the race, and eventually crossed the line in first to take his third win of the season.
Marco Simoncelli and Andrea Dovizioso battled for fourth place for much of the race. Simoncelli was able to get the advantage on the last lap and pushed Dovizioso down to fifth.
Valentino Rossi had another poor qualifying session, but was able to bring his Ducati from 11th on the grid into the top five. But before the race was over Rossi had fallen behind Simoncelli, Dovizioso and Ben Spies to take 7th.
Alvaro Bautista claimed his fourth top ten finish today with an 8th place behind Rossi. Hector Barbera and Cal Cructhlow completed the top 10.
